Despite CJ Entus’ firm status in relegations, it still managed to take down rookie team ESC Ever 2-1 in Tuesday’s League Champions Korea match. Even in its position, CJ Entus showed a glimmer of the power of an LCK veteran and beat Ever ferociously after dropping Game 1. CJ support Hong “Madlife” Min-Ki felt that perhaps knowing his team will be relegated did them some favors, writes Inven’s Shin Dong-Geun.
“I was expecting that we would be relegated slowly from round 2,” he told Inven. “With that fact hanging over us, the team was not feeling great, which led to more losses, with it snowballing until where we are right now. But when relegations were confirmed, it gave us a form of recovery that removed all pressure from future games.”
Of course, that might not be the case for the many CJ fans out there, with some concerns about the team itself not really feeling good about the whole situation. Madlife said that CJ continued to work hard regardless.
“With continued losses and competitive game performance not matching up with practice game performance, the team felt defeated and the atmosphere was gloomy,” he said. “But we still need to take the rest of the matches seriously, and losses are losses so we told each other to keep soldiering on. I haven’t been on the internet (forums) at all as of late, and I didn’t know what the fans were thinking, but the team isn’t as broken as some fans might think.”
With their last match against KT Rolster, CJ would be playing spoiler and could force KT in fourth place if it pulls out a miraculous win. Without much pressure, Madlife said that their next games could go just as well as Tuesday.
“If things work out like they did today, I think we won’t fall behind KT,” he said. “With practice today and tomorrow, we’ll shake off the remaining pressure and hopefully get a win.”
