Slingshot Readers,

We NEED your support. More specifically, the author of this article needs your support. If you've been enjoying our content, you know that a lot of work goes into our stories and although it may be a work of passion, writers gotta eat. If just half our readers gave 1 DOLLAR a month, one measly dollar, we could fund all the work from StuChiu, DeKay, Emily, Andrew (and even Vince). If you contribute 5 DOLLARS a month, we invite you to join our Discord and hang with the team. We wouldn't bother you like this if we didn't need your help and you can feel good knowing that 100% of your donation goes to the writers. We'd really appreciate your support. After all, you're what makes all this happen. Learn more

A short and regular opinion blast from Stephen Chiu

Today it was leaked on PvPLive that Riot was going to introduce crowdfunding with a number of other ways to help LCS. All of this happened because Tryndamere went on reddit to tell teams that they should spend their millions of dollars made from LoL and to put it back into the LoL space. In many ways, League fans are lucky that Tryndamere didn’t follow their advice to get a good PR manager to do his posts as the outrage caused by the non-PR post was what sparked the entire thing to go forward.

Stil it’s funny to me that this has been happening in multiple other esports games including Dota2, CS:GO and SMITE and has been happening for years. If Riot bothered to look out to other scenes and learn from them (instead of looking at other scenes, calling it unsustainable and then calling it a day), this could have happened years ago.

So let this be a lesson to all of you who don’t realize it yet. You can learn things from other people’s experiences.
