RFRSH Entertainment, which represents Heroic, released a string of statements Tuesday about Heroic’s benching of Valdemar “valde” Vangså, which was announced over the weekend.
The decision was made because Valde apparently was uncertain about his future on the team. Heroic coach Henrik “FeTiSh” Christensen said in a statement that it was unfortunate to bench a player close to important games — Heroic qualified for ESL One Cologne on Sunday — but it was the right decision to make.
“For me, due to the uncertainty, it wasn’t a tough choice, though,” FeTiSh said in the statement. “We risked a less than optimal performance and lack of focus from valde and the other guys, and I had to handle this.”
Valde also commented on the benching through the statement and said he would look to find a different organization.
“I take my part of the responsibility, and it was a frustration to all that we didn’t function optimally,” he said. “Now I look forward to finding a new team.”
Valde joined Heroic in August and helped the team to some of its strong recent finishes, including a semifinal result at DreamHack Austin and a semifinal finish at IEM Katowice.
