Slingshot Readers,

We NEED your support. More specifically, the author of this article needs your support. If you've been enjoying our content, you know that a lot of work goes into our stories and although it may be a work of passion, writers gotta eat. If just half our readers gave 1 DOLLAR a month, one measly dollar, we could fund all the work from StuChiu, DeKay, Emily, Andrew (and even Vince). If you contribute 5 DOLLARS a month, we invite you to join our Discord and hang with the team. We wouldn't bother you like this if we didn't need your help and you can feel good knowing that 100% of your donation goes to the writers. We'd really appreciate your support. ESL announced Tuesday a partnership with the University of York, a major university based in the United Kingdom, to create a research lab for gaming and esports.

The collaboration includes Digital Creativity Labs, a $23 million UK-funded research initiative, and the University of York’s Department of Theatre, Film and Television.

“We’re incredibly excited to be entering into a partnership with the University of York to help develop fresh new esports talent,” James Dean, Managing Director of ESL UK, said in a news release. “We’ve always been committed to creating opportunities for more people to enter the industry and now, with the help of the University of York, we’re looking forward to being able to help make sure the future is even brighter and better than it is now.”

The collaboration will be focused in three main areas. The first is teaching, where ESL will hold classes with students of the University of York, and the university will offer Bachelor of Science and Master of Science dissertations on esports. The second is research, where PhD internships will be available through the Intelligent Games and Game Intelligence PhD program and Digital Creativity Labs. The third is careers, where internships will offer an entry into the industry to ESL and beyond.
