Phase 1 SEA TI Quals are over

Chiu on This
A short and regular opinion blast from Stephen Chiu

‘Chiu on This’ is a short and regular opinion blast

Among the TI7 qualifiers, Southeast Asia looked to be one of the most hotly contested regions. The parity between the various teams seemed to be at an all time high, so there were no easy favorites to pick to move on from the field. The three I picked were TnC, Faceless and Clutch. TnC because I consider them the best in SEA despite a bad matchup against Faceless. Faceless because they had beaten SEA teams all year. And Clutch because they had a strong run of form recently in online qualifiers and this was also online.

As it turned out, TnC was able to get the first seed and auto qualify into TI7. Fnatic had a surprise showing as its all-star team melded together and showed some of the promise the team had on paper. Faceless and Execration were tired in the round robin on the bubble and had to play a tiebreaker game where Execration was able to defeat Faceless in a long match. Faceless had good team fights but couldn’t overcome Execration’s gold lead or execution. In the end, Execration won and this will be the first TI where iceiceice is not in attendance.
