The Summer X Games will host the $75,000 FaceIt Rocket League Tournament at next month’s event in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Rocket League developer Psyonix and the X Games made the announcement Wednesday through a press release. The event will run July 13-16 and be part of X Fest. The invitational will be live streamed on ESPN 3, ESPNs online channel.
“The X Games and ESPN have done a great job of bringing attention to non-traditional sports over the years,” Psyonix esports operation manager Josh Watson said in the release. “Adding esports and Rocket League to that lineup is something we at Psyonix are very excited about. We can’t wait to bring this competition to a whole new audience.”
X Fest will be a part of the X Games and will feature art installations, musical acts, and other interactive events. X Games, mostly known for extreme skate boarding, BMX, and Moto events, has hosted esports competitions before, such as Call of Duty and Counter Strike: Global Offensive.
It’s been a big couple weeks for Rocket League, as the X Games announcement follows the recent news that NBC Sports will broadcast a $100,000 Rocket League event in coordination with FaceIt this summer. The event will be televised on NBC Sports and will take place from Aug. 5-27.
