ReKT Global, a new esports infrastructure company that launched Monday, works to connect people in esports to traditional sports teams, venues, and other interested investors.
As esports becomes a larger industry, prospective investors and interested parties have been on the rise, as evidenced by the number of traditional sports teams and multi-million dollar investments in the past two years. ReKT aims to provide a way for more interested parties to better connect with esports in a business-to-business manner.
“We are very focused on existing business in the market that has actual revenues or products that can use our services,” David Bialek, CEO of ReKT Global, told Slingshot. “We’re very interested in more established businesses that may not be marketing themselves. There are a lot of interested parties in teams, and we believe that an area that’s being underserved would be in some of the existing services and businesses.”
A a part of that effort is to create esports events in conjunction with festival operators. By getting into contact with venues and stadiums that often go neglected when not in use by a sports team, Bialek said offering events or tournaments to be held in these unused venues to entice an esports crowd will be beneficial first by “keeping the lights on,” but also as a way to bring in a new audience for those venues.
That also means creating unique content under the banner of ReKT to carve its own space to attract people into being interested in the type of events at these venues. ReKT has enlisted Kevin Knocke as the vice president of esports. Knocke has worked in the gaming and esports industry as caster, radio host and journalist. He said there is a lack of diversity in content when it comes to esports, and through ReKT, he aims to “create stuff on demand” in order to attract people in ways that aren’t being done in the status quo.
Amish Shah, founder of ReKT and a founding partner of venture capital firm SierraMaya360, also put his name in the market with seven figure investment into EnVyUs in 2016. He said he is looking to use his experience and contacts in order to create more large scale investments in the ecosystem of esports.
“We have a lot of joint ventures that will be announced,” he said. “Pro sports teams, venues. We have a roll-up strategy. We’re talking to acquiring three to five companies as well.”
Outside of the services offered to businesses, ReKT also has a jobs board (ReKTJobs) to assist those trying to enter into the esports market and a program to assist students and manage esports scholarships with ReKTUniversity.
