European esports organization Movistar Riders announced Monday it will not renew the expired contracts of its Overwatch roster.
Effective immediately, the players have become free agents, and according to the team’s former player Dante “Dante” Zegfeld in an interview with Over.gg, the organization told him it was “unsustainable” for the team to continue existing.
Most recently, the team finished in seventh place for Overwatch Contenders Season Zero in the European region, but it had some success in previous tournaments in winning the European Overwatch PIT Championship in April. It even defeated eUnited, which would end up winning Overwatch Contenders.
The now former Movistar Riders roster has some of the most talented players in the region, and Dante said that a number of them have already been given offers that, in all likelihood, will be taken.
“It’s gonna be hard to tell (players with offers) not to take them for the off chance that a random org will pick us up,” Dante told Over.gg.
The Movistar Riders also have rosters in other esports such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Call of Duty, FIFA, Hearthstone, League of Legends and Clash Royale.
