One of the new features in the League of Legends runes and masteries update will include the ability to throw a meteor at an opponent.

Riot Games has increasingly peeled back the curtain regarding its process of the new runes and masteries system, and another sneak peek was posted Wednesday about one such rune called Titled Meteor. The effect is obvious: you drop a meteor on an opponent’s head. Enemies will take bonus damage ranging from 40 to 100, based on your level plus 0.2 of the user’s ability power and 0.2 bonus attack damage. The cool down of Tilted Meteor will go from 20 seconds to eight seconds as the game progresses.

The meteor is cast when it goes off of cool down along with the next ability cast. When it is ready to launch, the character model will feature a small orbiting orange sphere, indicating that the next skill with launch it. The opponent will be given a chance to dodge it, as an indicator will appear, warning where it will land.

The design looks as if it is serving to be an extra amount of burst damage to mages that have crowd control abilities, as it belongs on the Sorcery tree of runes. Players should keep in mind that this rune is also still a work in progress, and is subject to change at any point before release.

The new rune system will already let players go into gold debt to buy items, and this just seems to be the latest (and coolest) feature to be unveiled yet.
