Overwatch’s principle designer Geoff Goodman revealed that a large buff is in the works for Roadhog, which might make him more fun to play.
“Currently we have been play testing Roadhog with -50% damage taken while using Take a Breather, and also allowing him to move at full speed while inhaling,” he wrote as a reply to a forum post. “These two changes combined certainly make him significantly more difficult to kill, while also allowing Roadhog players to be much more aggressive when trying to find a hook target, knowing they can survive a lot more easily.”
One of Roadhog’s abilities, Take a Breather, allows him to recover a large amount of his health, but the ability also makes him unable to move, and he still takes damage while using it. Usually players would find a corner somewhere to recover, which also takes away time when he could be tanking damage or being present in a fire fight.
Perhaps one of the most hot button topics in the Overwatch community is the status of Roadhog after he was dealt a rather huge nerf. By reducing the damage per shot of his primary weapon in exchange for a larger clip, his signature combo of hooking an enemy hero and killing them with a point-blank shotgun blast became near impossible.
As a result, many players who have come to love Roadhog’s play style have been complaining about the nerf, saying that he is no longer a viable tank choice that he once was. The official Overwatch forum has seen its fair share of these arguments, and finally they got to hear some music to their ears.
Goodman added that they plan to implement it to the Public Test Realm as soon as possible and that it might be a bit too strong, but at this point people are willing to take what they can get when it comes to Roadhog.
