Team Liquid continued to bolster its League of Legends roster by signing popular streamer David “insanity” Challe, according to Riot Games’ global contract database.
Team Liquid’s latest hire is an up-and-coming League of Legends talent who has never played in the North American League of Legends Championship Series, but he has been in the high ranks of Challenger and is only 17 years old. Although the database changed his name to just “insanity,” fans will know him by “insanityXXX,” as he has a strong following of more than 14,000 subscribers on his Twitch channel.
This signing comes two days after Liquid’s re-acquisition of Joshua “Dardoch” Hartnett, a player who was released last year because of conflicts within the team. With a previous announcement that the team will be returning to a 10-person roster (after a brief experiment to start 2016), Liquid now has 11 players with the addition of Dardoch, insanity, and Son “Mickey” Young-min.
The addition of insanity could be a preemptive move for Liquid to creating an Academy team, as next year’s NA LCS will feature franchised teams. All LCS teams can field a team in the Academy League, which will replace the Challenger Series. Insanity played for Team Secret for the North American Challenger Series qualifiers, though the team did not reach the NA CS.
