Samsung defeated the ROX Tigers 2-0 on Tuesday to remain in second place. After the match in an interview with the assembled media, Ambition said that as the stakes have been raised at this point of the season, the increased amount of practice reduced the amount of time he can spend with his wife. Ambition fully intends to finish first in order to win a vacation and make up for lost time.
“Having a meal with my wife in places near the gaming house has become a source of joy in my life,” he said. “We will be getting a vacation if we make it straight to the finals, so I will try my absolute best.”
The structure of the LCK playoffs gives the first place team a ticket straight to the finals. Apart from the strategic benefits, Ambition seems to have a mental refresher in mind behind his mad dash to first place.
Several factors stand in Ambition’s way. First is Samsung’s match against Longzhu — which is tied with Samsung with an identical record — on the last day of the split. The second is KT Rolster, which secured a 2-0 win against Longzhu on Tuesday to take first place. If SK Telecom T1 beats KT and Samsung beats Longzhu, Samsung will be tied with KT in match wins, but come ahead of KT by having a better game win-loss record. Ambition said that the first place finish isn’t completely in the team’s hands, but that he still fully intends to do his best.
“We’ve been thinking about the Longzhu match for some time,” he said. “Honestly the best case scenario was Longzhu winning (against KT) in a 2-1, but it’s disappointing that it didn’t work out that way. It’s now impossible for us to be in first place just based on how we do. At the very least, I want to beat Longzhu and secure second place.”
