Slingshot Readers,

We NEED your support. More specifically, the author of this article needs your support. If you've been enjoying our content, you know that a lot of work goes into our stories and although it may be a work of passion, writers gotta eat. If just half our readers gave 1 DOLLAR a month, one measly dollar, we could fund all the work from StuChiu, DeKay, Emily, Andrew (and even Vince). If you contribute 5 DOLLARS a month, we invite you to join our Discord and hang with the team. We wouldn't bother you like this if we didn't need your help and you can feel good knowing that 100% of your donation goes to the writers. We'd really appreciate your support. ELEAGUE announced Tuesday a partnership with the insurance company GEICO to launch an amateur esports tournament series beginning with Street Fighter V.

The first of the series, titled the GEICO ELEAGUE Amateur Series, will be held Sept. 1-4 at PAX West in Seattle. The tournament will feature Street Fighter V and will be live streamed through both ELEAGUE’s and GEICO’s Twitch channels.

“The Fighting Game Community has grown by leaps and bounds into one of the most engaging and passionate fan bases in all of esports,” Vince Giampietro, senior marketing manager for GEICO, said in a release. “From Day 1, we’ve made it our goal to support the gaming community and we are excited to strengthen our relationship with Turner Sports in this new endeavor.”

The tournament will have three online qualifiers through which the top 16 players can qualify for PAX West, and another 16 players will be able to qualify on-site. The 32 players will then enter a playoff bracket to determine a final winner. More details regarding the prizing, production, and talent will be released in the future.

The partnership between ELEAGUE and GEICO aims to create a stage where amateur competitors in esports can have a stage to perform through a series of competitions and across a range of games.
