Gambit Gaming announced Wednesday it purchased the contract of Abay “HObbit” Khassenov from TENGRi, making HObbit a permanent member of the PGL Major champions.

Gambit and TENGRi reached a buyout agreement for HObbit of $100,000 in June, according to an announcement, which is claimed to be a “record high transfer fee” in the CIS region. HObbit was a big part of Gambit’s upset win at the PGL Major last month and has become a popular player among the team.

HObbit has been on a loan from Tengri since October. With him, Gambit has been one of the most consistent Tier 2 teams in the world before breaking through at the Major. HObbit signed with Tengri in July 2016. Perhaps has standout performance came in the finals of the Major, which included winning a 1-v-4 against Immortals.

Before the ELEAGUE Major in January, HObbit’s status was momentarily in question when the team wasn’t sure if his visa would go through, which caused the entire team to nervously drink.

“Everyone one our team was getting crazy and nervous because no one knows if it was going to happen tomorrow and if he would get it or not get it,” Dauren “AdreN” Kystaubayev told Slingshot. “And everyone got drunk that night. Then he got his visa.”

The rest of the Gambit roster includes AdreN, Danylo “Zeus” Teslenko, Mikhail “Dosia” Stolyarov and Rustem “mou” Telepov.
