The Helsinki REDS announced Friday the launch of a new junior Overwatch team for players aged 13 through 19.
The team will launch in partnership with Good Game Squad, a “Finnish esports organization that combines youth work and coaching,” according to a news release. The team will be called the GGS REDS.
“When I started my coaching studies at Varala Sports Institute, I decided to focus on junior coaching and to develop a pilot-model with Varala, so in the future the esports organizations could use it to start their own junior teams,” GGS REDS coach Niklas Hirvelä said in the release. “Helsinki REDS was an obvious choice to start this project, since it is an organization that gives me a chance to build a quality path for the players to follow all the way from junior teams to pro player. With Good Game Squad here to accompany us, I believe we could do something special for young esports talents living near Helsinki.”
The Helinski REDS are an esports project started in November by Finnish ice hockey club IFK Helsinki.
