It appears the matchups for the EU LCS promotional tournament have been determined.
Schalke 04‘s Marc “Caedrel” Lamont wrote Monday on Twitter to say his team will play the Mysterious Monkeys on Thursday in the first match of the promotional tournament. Giants Gaming esports director David “LozarK” Vicente revealed his team would play Ninjas in Pyjamas on Friday.
We face @MonkeysGER on the 17th in the first round of the promotion tournament

Giants and Schalke 04 qualified for the promotional tournament by placing first and second in the playoffs of the European Challenger Series, with their respective wins against Wind And Rain and the Red Bulls. Both teams were also part of the EU LCS before being relegated. Likewise, Ninjas in Pyjamas and Mysterious Monkeys were the two newest teams in the EU LCS, as both joined this summer after buying the spots of Misfits Academy and Fnatic Academy.
The four teams will play a double elimination mini tournament, as the two Challenger teams play the two LCS teams in a best-of-five. The winners advance to the final, with the winner of that best-of-five guaranteed a spot in the LCS. The losers of the first matches play a best-of-five, with the loser of that being eliminated. The final best-of-five pits the winner of the losers match against the loser of the winners match, with the winner qualifying to the LCS.
Schalke 04 joined the LCS last summer to much fanfare before being relegated, and it’s been a long climb to get back to the point of re-entry. Giants, meanwhile, made the playoffs of the LCS last summer before struggling this spring and being relegated.
