Slingshot Readers,

We NEED your support. More specifically, the author of this article needs your support. If you've been enjoying our content, you know that a lot of work goes into our stories and although it may be a work of passion, writers gotta eat. If just half our readers gave 1 DOLLAR a month, one measly dollar, we could fund all the work from StuChiu, DeKay, Emily, Andrew (and even Vince). If you contribute 5 DOLLARS a month, we invite you to join our Discord and hang with the team. We wouldn't bother you like this if we didn't need your help and you can feel good knowing that 100% of your donation goes to the writers. We'd really appreciate your support. After all, you're what makes all this happen. Learn more

Swag to play for Cloud9 in ESL One New York qualifier

Swag will play for Cloud9 at the ESL One New York qualifier.
Swag (Braxton Pierce) will play for Cloud9 at the ESL One New York qualifier.

Braxton “swag” Pierce will stand in for Cloud9 during this weekend’s qualifiers for ESL One New York, the organization announced Monday.

Swag will play for Timothy “autimatic” Ta, who will be out of town during the event, according to a Tweet from Cloud9’s Jake Stewie2k Yip.

Perhaps one of the most talented players of CS:GO in North America, swag was banned for his part in the 2014 match fixing scandal while playing for iBUYPOWER. He was banned from competing in any Valve-sponsored events, a decision almost every tournament organizer adopted, though swag stood in for Cloud9 during the CS Summit in April. Swag and the other players were unbanned by ESL last month, meaning even though he still can’t play in Valve-sponsored events, swag is eligible to compete in ESL events.

The ESL One New York qualifiers for North America will feature eight teams, with seven invited ones and one from the open qualifiers. The top team of the North American qualifier will join the six other invited teams at ESL ONE New York along with the top team of the European qualifier, to participate in the $250,000 event that runs Sept. 16-17 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
