Blizzard announced on Monday through a Gamescom preview video package that the visitors to the Blizzard booth will be able to try out a brand new map called Junkertown.
Junkertown is located in Overwatch’s Australia, which has turned into a Mad Max-esque, post-apocalyptic desert following a massive fusion core explosion in the region. Closely associated with the two Overwatch heroes from Australia, Junkrat and Roadhog, the video package included the two heroes giving a comedic introduction of the map.
Although the exact details of the map is still unclear, it looks like it will be an escort or an assault-and-escort map, with the assaulting team escorting an explosive payload to the final destination disguised as a pile of riches within a set amount of time. The defenders will try to prevent that from happening.
Blizzard announced Thursday while promoting its booth at Gamescom that players would be able to try out a new map by coming to its booth. It also revealed a new animated short would premiere this week. The new animated short will be revealed Wednesday It will be live streamed.
This will be the first new map since Horizon Lunar Colony, set on the moon, was revealed in May.
UPDATE (12:52 P.M. EST): The official YouTube channel of Overwatch uploaded a brief overview of what Junkertown will look like in the game.
