Cloud9 CEO Jack Etienne seemed to confirm Wednesday in a Reddit post that the team has moved on from its Dota 2 roster. The possibility of that was initially pointed out when Cloud9’s website no longer listed a Dota 2 team. There has been no official announcement from Cloud9 aside from Etienne’s Reddit post.
“It was an honor to work with the boys again be a part of TI7,” he wrote. “I loved all the support and memes along the way. This is not the end for Cloud9 Dota.”
Cloud9 purchased Team NP‘s roster July 21 after it reached TI7 though the North American qualifier. It was a reunion of sorts for the organization, which purchased much of its former Dota 2 roster that participated at The International in 2014 and 2015. But this year’s event didn’t go so well, as Cloud9 finished 14th.
Cloud9 has had an on and off relationship with Dota 2. Although it managed to send a team to The International in 2014 and 2015, it released its roster in December 2015. It re-entered Dota 2 with the purchase of the Danish Bears in January but disbanded in May.
