The randomly determined four matchups with for the eight nations that qualified for the Overwatch World Cup’s main event are the United Kingdom vs. Sweden, Canada vs. Australia, China vs. France, and South Korea vs. United States.
The South Korea/USA matchup is particularly interesting because they are two of the premier regions in Overwatch. With how dominant South Korea has been so far in competitive Overwatch as a region, the Koreans are the favorites to repeat as Overwatch World Cup champions. This will also be a rematch of last year’s quarterfinal, which South Korea won convincingly.
The main event will be played in a single elimination, best-of-five format, with the losers of the semifinals meeting in a third place decider match. The tournament will take place at this year’s Blizzcon in the Anaheim Convention Center on Nov. 3-4, with the grand final taking place the last night of the convention. Each player representing its team is awarded $1,500 and receives another $1,500 for making the playoffs.
