“These are two very good teams combining under a single flag,” Helsinki REDS general manager Christer Kasurinen said in a statement. “The strengths of these players complement each other very well.”
The three newly signed players will round out the roster after the team released Roope”Ruape” Kurkela, Ville “prettyWise” Mikkonen, and Miika “BBR” Tekoniemi earlier in the month.
The team also announced that it has appointed flex player Eemeli “Woomera” Ikonen as the new captain, a role that was previously occupied by Ruape.
“Even though there’s a lot of work to be done, we’re very confident that this was a good decision for the REDS,” Woomera said in a statement. “It’s been clear since our very first scrims together that we are all prepared to put in a huge effort for this team. We all are eager to get started, and everyone is chomping at the bit to get back on the tournament circuit. One thing is certain: there is no lack of skill or willpower in this team.”
In addition to the main team, the Helsinki REDS also launched a junior Overwatch team earlier this month in partnership with Good Game Squad. The team competed in the ASUS ROG Tournament earlier this month, where it finished in the top four.
The Helinski REDS are an esports project started in November by Finnish ice hockey club IFK Helsinki.
