“While I’m still under contract with Renegades, I’ve been given permission to try out and seek opportunities with OWL teams,” he wrote.
Currently a member of Renegades‘ Overwatch team, Mangachu is a well known figure in North American Overwatch. He’s been professionally active since the game’s release, also playing for Tempo Storm NA. His team finished sixth in Overwatch Contenders Season Zero, qualifying for Season 1. Renegades is 0-2 so far in the new season.
Mangachu was chosen as the flex player for Team Canada for this year’s Overwatch World Cup. Team Canada won Group F after beating Netherlands 3-0 and will be one of eight teams to make the playoffs at Blizzcon. Canada will play Australia in the quarterfinals.
Mangachu is the second North American player to recently announce interest in joining an Overwatch League team while being part of another team’s roster. Luminosity Gaming Evil’s DPS player Jake “JAKE” Lyon announced last week he was also looking for a team after he received permission from his team to do so.
UPDATE (4:26 P.M. EST): Two more players from Renegades’ Overwatch team, Christopher “J3sus” Pavloff and Jonathon “Sherlockey” Davis have both announced on Wednesday through Twitter that they are also looking to join a team competing in the Overwatch League after gaining permission to do so.
