ESL lifts ‘erroneous’ ban on Space Soldiers’ Despe

The ESL ban levied against Space Soldiers player Despe has been lifted
The ESL lifted a ban on Space Soldiers player Despe (Çağatay Sedef).

The ESL cheating ban levied against Turkish Counter-Strike player Çağatay “Despe” Sedef was done so erroneously and has been lifted, ESL tournament director Jonas Alsaker Vikan wrote Tuesday.

Despe was banned last week under the suspicion of cheating, but Vikan said ESL later realized Despe’s ESL Play account had been accidentally mistaken for one of a known cheater.

“Having reviewed the case in detail, it is definitive there has been no wrongdoing on the part of Despe,” Vikan said. “There is no evidence or documentation connecting Despe to the account in question or to cheating of any kind.”

Vikan apologized to Despe and his team, Space Soldiers, for the inadvertent flagging of his account. Despe is not part of the starting Space Soldiers roster but remains under contract with the team, which called the cheating accusations false when the ban was first implemented. Representatives of Space Soldiers later told HLTV “our player has been falsely accused and this issue will be solved as soon as possible.”
