Buffs and nerfs to starting support items in League of Legends PBE

With the strength of starting support items in the conversation regarding balance, Ancient Coin was nerfed again, while Spellthief’s Edge was slightly buffed in the Tuesday update to League of Legends’ Public Beta Environment.

Ancient Coin has become the default starting support item for many support players, as it gives supports a way to get some extra income by simply being around dying enemy minions and extra mana as well, giving them more room to use their abilities. Despite a round of nerfs, the trend hasn’t really died down, so Riot gave it another nerf in the amount of mana the support champion gets through mana coins from 10 percent to six, and the minimum amount of mana returned was dropped from 15 to 10.

On the other end of the spectrum, Spellthief’s Edge will be getting another buff that will boost the laning power for supports. The ability power boost went from five to 10. With the previously added cooldown reduction to the item line, it might be enough to at least be more of a viable choice other than Ancient Coin or Relic Shield.

A number of rune changes in for the new system

With the rune update just around the corner, tweaks and changes to the new runes have been added to the PBE.

Coup de Grace‘s bonus damage to enemy champions with 40 percent health or below was increased from three percent to five percent, and the stackable boost to attack damage or ability power — based on which stat has the most boosts — will last 10 seconds instead of five.

Press the Attack‘s effects have been tweaked a bit. Now when an enemy champion is attacked by a player with three stacks of this rune, the target takes eight percent more damage from melee and 12 percent more damage from ranged attacks. While this can stack infinitely, changing targets loses you two stacks and you lose stacks rapidly after not attacking anyone for three seconds.

The time window to attack an enemy champion to get a damage boost from Electrocute has increased from two seconds to three.

The values of stacking attack damage for Gathering Storm has been reduced, meaning that it the final boost value was reduced. The ability power numbers remain the same.
