Slingshot Readers,

We NEED your support. More specifically, the author of this article needs your support. If you've been enjoying our content, you know that a lot of work goes into our stories and although it may be a work of passion, writers gotta eat. If just half our readers gave 1 DOLLAR a month, one measly dollar, we could fund all the work from StuChiu, DeKay, Emily, Andrew (and even Vince). If you contribute 5 DOLLARS a month, we invite you to join our Discord and hang with the team. We wouldn't bother you like this if we didn't need your help and you can feel good knowing that 100% of your donation goes to the writers. We'd really appreciate your support. After all, you're what makes all this happen. Learn more

You’re not supposed to be able to watch all the games

Chiu on This
A short and regular opinion blast from Stephen Chiu

The LCS circuit as a whole has always tried to model itself after sports. In which case, I don’t see why the league needed to switch back from bo3 to bo1. Even the most hardcore sports fan is not going to watch every game of the regular season or every match in a tournament. The only people that do that are analysts, journalists, and maybe coaches. I don’t know why League fans are happy that they basically hampered the level of competition so they have a stronger sense of having watched everything. It’s basically an illusion, it’s like assuming you know everything because all you have to learn is arithmetic instead of the entire multiplication tables.

On the other hand, it’s clear that Riot have never had an emphasis on competition and to see who is the best, so there you go.
