On May 11, 2017, Blizzard released an official statement in response to Richard Lewis’ report here. Or at least I assume it’s to Richard Lewis, they don’t name him by name, but in terms of timing he was the only one who did something like this at the time.
Anyways, I thought it would be hilarious to see what has happened since. I’ll split it into two parts.
This is from the statement, “we’d like to dispel any rumors that we’re ignoring endemics. Anyone who knows Blizzard understands how deeply we care about the communities around our games. ”
OWL first season has now been completed. In 12 slots, 6 were endemics. They were: Misfits, NRG, Immortals, Cloud 9, EnVyUs, and OpTic. All of which are NA orgs.
Endemic teams that have either left or were unable to get into the league then: coL, TSM, Splyce, Fnatic, Dignitas, NiP, Liquid, Tempo Storm, Renegades, FaZe, any of the new Korean orgs, any of the Kespa korean orgs, any of the big Chinese orgs, ahq, Flash wolves, ahq, mineski, G2, mousesports, ldlc, SK gaming, penta, flipsid3, CLG, EG, LG, and Chiefs.
If you were counting, that is a shit load of endemic orgs that either disbanded or are not in Overwatch. If you want you can only count the big orgs, in which case I still think it’s completely fair to say that Blizzard has ignored endemics.
