Ikssu on beating SKT: “I’m not all that excited after winning a game I thought we would win.”

The Afreeca Freecs shocked League Champions Korea yet again Saturday with a clean 2-0 win against SK Telecom T1. On the backs of the carries Son “Mickey” Young-Min and Kwon “Sangyoon” Sang-Yoon, they showcased their tendency to pick fights and win them. Although not nominated with an MVP nod, top laner Jeon “Ikssu” Ik-Su also played like a rock in the top lane and followed up with his team’s attack calls without fail. Despite having a win over the most dominant team in Korea, Ikssu said he wasn’t all that thrilled, writes Inven’s Park Bum.

“I’m not all that excited after winning a game I thought we would win,” he told Inven. “If we win our next game I think I would be very excited then.”

Inven had to ask more in detail on why he thought they were going to win with such confidence, and Ikssu said that it was precisely that: confidence.

“We had a prepared composition, and with the coach’s encouragement, we had an incredible amount of confidence,” he said. “That’s why I thought we were going to win. We’re comfortable facing SKT. We have nothing to lose if we do drop, but if we win it’s a jackpot win.”

That didn’t mean he wasn’t looking at the game with a cautious eye, as he did say that in Game 2 he was “rather nervous” and said that SKT is a team “that can catch up with a slight amount of concentration.”

With Afreeca’s chances of making the postseason becoming more of a reality, Ikssu is hoping that his team avoids one team in particular until the finals, and it’s not SKT.

“If we make it to the playoffs, I want to have the finals with the ROX Tigers,” he said. “Before that I am confident we can win against any team. Every team other than the ROX Tigers.”

With their next game against the Jin Air Green Wings, Ikssu said that he was actually very cautious against a team that is almost out of the playoffs picture with 5 wins and 9 losses.

“A team on a losing streak is a terrifying one,” he said. “They focus more because they have nothing more to lose. If we get wound up in their pace the games will get difficult. I do think we will win though, because our confidence is strong.”
