Slingshot Esports seeks a reporter to work out of its New York City office.
Slingshot is a recently-launched independent publication dedicated to covering esports. Our agenda is simple: Find and write the most interesting stories. We aim to cover not just esports, but the culture surrounding them.
We’ve sent reporters to cover major events from Counter-Strike majors to League of Legend World Championships to The International. We’ve published works from Paul “Redeye” Chaloner, Tomi “lurppis” Kovanen and more.
This position requires:
- The ability to identify and write about things in an interesting way.
- Knowledge of a broad range of games including but not limited to League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Super Smash Bros., Overwatch and StarCraft II
- An ability to cultivate stories and do original reporting
- An understanding and passion for general gaming culture i.e. popular streamers, esports personalities and various game developers
- To be as passionate about journalism as esports
- A desire to break news
- Regularly pitching ideas for enterprise and investigative stories while working on smaller daily articles
- A knack for writing for the web
- An ability to relate esports to broader cultural interests
