Ask the CS:GO pros: Who’s the hardest player to play against?

Fans and analysts all have their ideas about who the best Counter-Strike player in the world is, but who do the pros themselves find difficult to defeat?

Slingshot’s Vince Nairn asked nine pros during the ELEAGUE Major who they thought the most difficult individual player was to go against and why. The responses are below.

Nathan “NBK-” Schmitt, EnVyUs (now on G2): I would say coldzera but we’ve faced them only once in a year and a half. I feel that Flamie has always been a player that has played really well against us, so I guess out of all of them, probably Flamie.

Kenny “KennyS” Schrub, EnVyUs (now on G2): There’s a lot, but I would say snax. He’s one of the most complete players there is. Snax is amazing. He’s really good at everything. He’s really smart. I can count how many times he’s knifed me on practice. He’s really smart, and it’s sometimes really hard to play a smart player, especially in clutch situations

Emil “Magisk” Reif, North: That’s a tough one. I think it’s really annoying playing against Dennis from Fnatic. He’s really good with pistols. Every time you play him, it’s like “OK, just kill four. That’s it, you win the round.” But no, he’s really skilled, and he’s really annoying to play against because he’s really smart. He doesn’t make many stupid mistakes, and if you make a mistake he’s gonna punish you. He’s a really underrated player.

Peter “dupreeh” Rothmann, Astralis: It’s hard to say. SK is tough playing against individually. First of all, they have great players, but they’re extremely good at shoulder peeking and being really annoying when they’re about to enter a site. They always jump or shoulder peek or bait out your shots, and there’s really nothing you can do. It’s hard to control that.

Fabien “Kioshima” Fiey, FaZe Clan: There’s many players I don’t really like to play against because there is some specific stuff they use to counter you personally. I would say in general all the snipers, the aggressive snipers are really hard to play against.

Will “RUSH” Wierzba, OpTic: I haven’t played like, Na’Vi, regularly. I’ve played them but not regularly. If I had to say teams that I’ve played (frequently), probably dev1ce. He’s always consistent. I’ve never really had a game against him where I felt like he was weak, so he’s really strong.

Ruben “RUBINO” Villareal, formerly of North: I think it’s Snax. He makes rounds, some moves that you’ve never seen before. I really love his play style. I’m a big fan of what he does because he’s doing stuff nobody thought would work. He makes it work in some way.

Spencer “Hiko” Martin, Liquid (now on OpTic): I’d say probably a Na’Vi with GuardiaN or an SK with FalleN, one of those really strong AWPers that can take over the game, and if they do, then it’s just so hard to play against.

Epitacio “TACO” de Melo, SK Gaming: I guess Flamie from Na’Vi always plays good against us. He’s really hard to play against. And also, dev1ce is a great player. I think, to play against, dev1ce is always hard.
