Ask the CS:GO pros: What’s your favorite Major memory?

The Majors provide perhaps the most magical moments in professional Counter-Strike. Whether it’s teams breaking through to win after years of struggle, like Astralis did last month in Atlanta, or the craziness of an individual play or match, it seems everyone has a favorite.

Slingshot’s Vince Nairn asked nine professional players at the ELEAGUE Major what was their favorite Major memory — whether it was one they played in or not — and why. The responses are below.

Nathan “NBK-” Schmitt, EnVyUs (now on G2): Our win in semifinals against TSM at ESL One Cologne 2015. We had a French crowd in the biggest stadium ever. Insane game. All the good things. And TSM was one of the best in the world at that time. To beat them 2-1, with crowd with us, was amazing.

Kenny “KennyS” Schrub, EnVyUs (now on G2): I have two, actually. My first one was ESL Cologne when we lost in the final against Fnatic. It was the worst and the best at the same time. The crowd was amazing. So far it’s the best crowd. The second one was of course the Major we won, the Cluj-Napoca one. Winning a Major is always very special and gives a lot of joy.

Mathias “MSL” Lauridsen, North: My favorite Major memory is when Virtus.pro went on the stage at Katowice in 2014 and all the fans were going totally bananas. That’s something I want in Denmark, for sure.

Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski, Virtus.pro: Of course Katowice when we won in 2014. It was the best feeling. It was our first (Major) victory. It was great to win it.

Fabien “Kioshima” Fiey, FaZe Clan: DreamHack Winter 2104 when we won the first time with LDLC because at this time it was so big and so much stuff happened with this tournament. Winning it was just insane because there’s a story behind it. There’s everything behind it.

Will “RUSH” Wierzba, OpTic: It was definitely the olof boost at DreamHack Winter 2014. That was insane to watch, all the drama that came out of it and disputes. The game itself was amazing. Watching that documentary the On Fire guys did, it was great.

Ruben “RUBINO” Villareal, formerly of North: I think it’s Cologne (2016). ELEAGUE is really nice too, but Cologne was insane. All the people there in the playoffs, it was insane.

Spencer “Hiko” Martin, Liquid (now on OpTic): The one I remember the best was MLG Columbus. 1-v-4 on Cache. I come up, kill everybody, defuse the bomb. I’ve had some big rounds, like Dignitas where “Hiko are you kidding me?!” came from. But doing a round like that in Columbus, in front of an American crowd, where everyone is cheering and everyone is so hyped. That was most memorable.

Epitacio “TACO” de Melo, SK Gaming: The first Major (we won at MLG Columbus) was insane because nobody was expecting us to win, and we did it. I think the moment we won the second map in the grand final against Na’Vi was a magic moment for me. I will never forget it.
