After the ROX Tigers’ victory against the bbq Olivers on Sunday, ROX’s head coach Kang Hyun-jong talked about how the victory will be a boost to the team before it prepares for IEM Katowice in an interview with OSEN’s Ko Yong-jun.
“We will be able to go to Katowice happily now,” he said. “Today’s victory was meaningful because we won by accentuating our play style, and I’m very happy.”
Against bbq, coach Kang gave top laner Park “Shy” Sang-myeon a spot in the starting lineup and also let Son “Mickey” Young-min play Zed. He talked more in-depth about how he came to those decisions.
“Shy appealed to me that he wanted to play today’s match I think because of his difficult time against ESC Ever (which would become the bbq Olivers) at the KeSPA Cup,” he said. “I’m glad he lived up to my expectations. Mickey was practicing Zed since the beginning of the season and was looking for a chance to pull him out. I told him to go for it so we could play our game during a tough season.”
Coach Kang also shared his thoughts on ROX’s chances at IEM Katowice, and how it could be a good experience for the team.
“Many of our players don’t have international tournament experience,” he said. “We will work hard so it can be a tournament that will be memorable.”
