ROX Mickey after returning from IEM Katowice: “Honestly, I was a little scared to look at the crowd and face the fans.”

After falling by the hands of Europe’s G2 in IEM Katowice, the ROX Tigers bounced back in League Champions Korea play by defeating the Jin Air Green Wings on Wednesday.

As the MVP of both games, the mid laner for ROX Song “Mickey” Young-min was invited to the post-match interview with OGN casters Lee “CloudTemplar” Hyun-woo and Kim Dong-jun. Mickey talked how the international tournament helped him improve even with his disappointments.

“I think IEM was a good tournament that allowed me to grow as a player,” he said. “It was rather disappointing that we couldn’t win because I couldn’t perform well.”

ROX head coach Kang Hyun-jong seems to be in agreement as he told OSEN’s KO Yong-jun that IEM was just what the team needed.

“IEM acted as a good dose of medicine for the players,” he said. “I think we’ll have a good Round 2 (of the LCK), now that we ended Round 1 on a good note.”

At the end of his interview, Mickey was asked to share some words with the fans. He hesitated and seemed to be at a loss for words, looking apologetic. Perhaps knowing the expectations ROX had going into IEM from the Korean fans, a semifinals finish must have been very disappointing for Mickey and the fans, thus creating a moment of uncertainty for the mid laner.

“Honestly, I was a little scared to look at the crowd and face the fans,” he said. “Thank you very much for supporting us.”
