Kaiser posts goodbye note on Inven, confirms he’s heading to foreign team: “A large reason why I left the team is because of money.”

Kaiser goodbye note

The former main tanker for Runaway, Ryu “Kaiser” Sang-hoon, wrote in detail about his decision to leave the team in a goodbye note to the team.

The news of Kaiser’s sudden departure from OGN APEX League team Runaway came across as a shock for many fans. The owner and team captain Yoon “Runner” Dae-hoon mentioned in his personal stream that economics played a part in Kaiser’s decision. Kaiser took to Inven late Thursday night to talk in detail about his decision and confirmed those economic concerns.

“A large reason why I left the team is because of money,” he wrote. “After the finals (of Season 2) I showed my loyalty during a personal stream saying that ‘I won’t play in Runaway if Runner isn’t playing,’ but I ended up leaving the team anyway, and in the middle of APEX. I have impacted my team in a very negative manner. I also felt ashamed of myself, thinking ‘why is money so important?’ but I learned that I couldn’t live through life with just loyalty. I even used most of my winnings paying back my debts and I didn’t have much left. My economic situation doesn’t look any better either.”

Widespread speculation pegs Kaiser moving to a foreign team in part because of his English skills, which Kaiser confirmed by mentioning an unnamed “foreign organization” and an opportunity to make the move. Kaiser explained that he “didn’t have much time to make a decision,” which is why he made the sudden announcement.

Kaiser said a monthly salary can help with his working mother’s expenses as a large benefit, as well as being able to move to a gaming house, as he is currently practicing in his own apartment he shares with his mother. He described concerns that when he plays “competitive with the mic on late into the night, I bother my mother’s sleep by being loud,” a concern a gaming house would solve.

Although he had his own guilt about his decision, Kaiser also said that he felt an amount of relief after Runaway’s match against Kongdoo UNCIA, which Runaway managed to win.

“I was relieved when I saw the match between Runaway and Kongdoo UNCIA, and I thought that they could do well without me,” he wrote. “That they could succeed without me.”

He also offered his heartfelt apologies to both Runner and the fans of Runaway, as he was aware of the negative impact his move will leave on the team, as he was the main tanker for Runaway.

“I can’t even remember how many times I said sorry to Runner and he kept telling me that it was OK,” he wrote. “Runner and the team was something I dedicated myself to with loyalty and respect, and I still feel nothing but remorse that I leave the team like this…I’m sure many people felt disappointment and betrayal as I, the main tanker, decided to leave all of the sudden. I am very sorry.”

A large reason why I left the team is because of money.

After the finals (of Season 2) I showed my loyalty during a personal stream saying that “I won’t play in Runaway if Runner isn’t playing,” but I ended up leaving the team anyways, and in the middle of APEX. I have impacted my team in a very negative manner.

I also felt ashamed of myself, thinking ‘why is money so important…’ but I learned that I couldn’t live through life with just loyalty.

I even used most of my winnings paying back my debts and I didn’t have much left.  My economic situation doesn’t look any better either.

It’s not the best timing but I have an opportunity to go to a foreign organization, but I didn’t have much time to make a decision.

If I can get paid a monthly salary I can then send that to my working mother in Korea and help her with her expenses.

Right now I live in an old apartment building on the first floor, and there isn’t any sort of soundproofing, which means when I play competitive with the mic on late into the night, I bother my mother’s sleep by being loud. If I move to a gaming house of a foreign organization I can play as late as I see fit.

My heart and mind were very complicated and dizzying.

During that time I was relieved when I saw the match between Runaway and Kongdoo UNCIA, and thought that they could do well without me. That they could succeed without me.

So I decided to leave the team, and I can’t even remember how many times I said sorry to Runner and he kept telling me that it was OK. Runner and the team was something I dedicated myself to with loyalty and respect, and I still feel nothing but remorse that I am leaving the team like this.

Runner told me he would not interfere with my decision.

I am sorry to my fans and the fans of Runaway.

Really

I’m sure many people felt disappointment and betrayal as I, the main tanker, decided to leave all of the sudden. I am very sorry.

To my teammates, I’m thankful and sorry to each and every one of you.

I was able to talk with Runner, but I was afraid of talking to the other teammates and because I felt ashamed, even through Direct Messages. I managed to drunkenly message Choong-hee two days ago, but I think I can properly deliver what was on my mind with this post.

Hyojong (Haksal) you are the best Genji and the cutest and most reckless school boy. Bumper you always seem like you’re in a good mood, and your laughter that makes me want to hit you also ends up making me laugh with you. You are the best sub-tanker.

Choonghee (Stitch) you are a professional male looks-streamer and the dealer who made me look so much older even though we are the same age, and the dealer who was the best in my heart. KoX you have a very straight forward personality and you have helped me realize about talent that is measurable to anyone, passion, and hard work.

Mirage, we were on the same team before on Discharge, and it was so much fun playing with you again, but I ended up causing a nuisance by leaving. I’m sorry.

Nomi you are the world’s best coach, and I’ve respected you since Season 1 for your colorful swearing, the sacrifices you make for the team, as well as your hard work and dedication. I haven’t even been able to repay you in kindness. I’m sorry.

Runner, you have done everything, sacrificed yourself and showed dedication for the sake of Runaway. Even when we were getting a lot of hate, you managed to lead us to Season 2’s second place finish, and as my own mentor, I will look up to you always.

To those who regard me well or poorly, I love you all.
