Slingshot Readers,

We NEED your support. More specifically, the author of this article needs your support. If you've been enjoying our content, you know that a lot of work goes into our stories and although it may be a work of passion, writers gotta eat. If just half our readers gave 1 DOLLAR a month, one measly dollar, we could fund all the work from StuChiu, DeKay, Emily, Andrew (and even Vince). If you contribute 5 DOLLARS a month, we invite you to join our Discord and hang with the team. We wouldn't bother you like this if we didn't need your help and you can feel good knowing that 100% of your donation goes to the writers. We'd really appreciate your support. After all, you're what makes all this happen. Learn more

Red Bull announced Wednesday a two-day Super Smash Bros event called the Gods and Gatekeepers tournament that will run Sept. 2-3 in Los Angeles.

In the unique event, fans will get the chance to team up and compete with some of the high-profile pro players who will be in attendance. That list features William “Leffen” Hjelte, Joseph “Mango” Marquez, Justin “Plup” McGrath, Zac “SFAT” Cordoni, Daniel “ChuDat” Rodriguez, Justin “Wizzrobe” Hallett, Jeffrey “Axe” Williamson and Jason “Mew2king” Zimmerman.

The first day of the event will feature a double-elimination open bracket to find the top 32 players. The top 32 will then advance to a draft for the second day of competition, in which 16 of the players will be selected by the pro players listed above — who are team captains — and the other 16 will play in a standalone “Forsaken Tournament.”

Each team will consist of four players. The captain will pick another player for his team before the event starts and then draft two players from the top 32. The teams will compete against each other on Day 2 until one team is remaining. The team that wins the most matchups advances. Each representative from a team will be selected via blind pick, and each player can only be used once, except for the fifth game of the series (if necessary), which will be 2-v-2.
