According to the report, a bidding war ensued between NRG and Cloud9, which increased the offers to sinatraa. A former player for Selfless Gaming, sinatraa has been a free agent since the team released its entire roster in July, though sinatraa was listed on Cloud9’s roster for Overwatch Contenders.
By signing with NRG, he would be reunited with his former head coach Brad Rajani, who joined NRG last month as the head coach of the Overwatch League team after departing from Selfless as one of the co-owners.
The minimum salary for an Overwatch League player is $50,000, which means the reported amount is triple what teams are required to pay their players.
Sinatraa has been long considered to be one of North America’s finest DPS players, and was chosen to be a part of Team USA in the Overwatch World Cup. The team has since qualified to play at this year’s Blizzcon from Nov. 3-4, where it will be one of eight teams competing for a chance at gold. Team USA’s opening match in the first round of the playoffs will be against Team South Korea.
