Slingshot Readers,

If you've been enjoying our content, you know that a lot of work goes into our stories and although it may be a work of passion, writers gotta eat. If just half our readers gave 1 DOLLAR a month, one measly dollar, we could fund all the work from StuChiu, DeKay, Emily, Andrew (and even Vince). If you contribute 5 DOLLARS a month, we invite you to join our Discord and hang with the team. We wouldn't bother you like this if we didn't need your help and you can feel good knowing that 100% of your donation goes to the writers. We'd really appreciate your support. You can enjoy things that aren’t the best

Chiu on This
A short and regular opinion blast from Stephen Chiu

I’ve seen this thought process take place every once in a while. Basically, a fan gets angry about something being too good and starts to attribute random flaws to the subject that don’t have much of a basis. For instance, StarCraft 2 fans will try to create weird reasons as to why SC2 is more difficult than Brood War. I’ve seen multiple reasons, like SC2 was strategically deeper or BW was too APM intensive and no one with low amounts of APM could be successful. Or only SC2 required twitch micro or you could be punished hard. For various reasons, none of those reasons hold water.

There is some sort of compulsion to prove that SC2 is better than BW in some sense. Although I’ve watched and written more about SC2 than almost anyone in the world, I do acknowledge that BW is a superior game in almost every sense. The only thing I prefer in SC2 is specific mirror matchups like bio vs mech or certain periods of Z-v-Z.

But the critical point is that it doesn’t hamper my enjoyment of watching SC2 because I can acknowledge these things about the game.

The reason I bring this up is so when I say that Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is complete trash from an aesthetic perspective, you know I’m being serious. It’s a function of an actual Marvel game.
