Is NA the best Dota 2 region?

Chiu on This
A short and regular opinion blast from Stephen Chiu

During 2014-15, Dota 2 fans tried to claim that NA was the best region because of the existence of Evil Geniuses. This was despite the fact that if you lined up each team head to head, China clearly had much more depth in its field even though it couldn’t field a team that could beat EG. The reason I’m bringing this up is that melonzz tweeted that NA is now the strongest region in Dota 2.

Although I think it’s a bit early to make that claim as we’re only two LANs into the new season and have yet to get more than a grammar patch, his reasoning makes much more sense than it did back then. Liquid is clearly the best team in the world, but beyond that, EU is in a clear hole. On the other hand, NA has a bunch of strong teams in OpTic, Immortals, compLexity and EG. The only question we have is China. While Newbee shit the bed, the other Chinese teams are on the rise, so I’ll reserve judgement until later. This doesn’t even go into the SEA argument where we’ve only seen Mineski on the international stage.

I will say that NA has had the best argument for being the best region in Dota 2 than it ever has.
