Report: Average Overwatch League salaries are $80,000-$120,000

The average annual salaries for players participating in the Overwatch League is $80,000-$120,000 according to a report Wednesday by Daily eSports.

The report sites multiple anonymous sources from teams participating in the inaugural season of the Overwatch League. One source was quoted saying that “some players are valued at a level similar to the players that are competing in the League of Legends World Championship.”

Players in Overwatch League are guaranteed a minimum salary of $50,000. There have been few reports aside from this one about how high above that some teams have gone, but 17-year-old Jay “sinatraa” Won was signed by NRG Esports (whose team is now known as the San Francisco Shock) for a reported $150,000 per year.

The transfer window for Season 1 closes Tuesday, and with that Korean organizations have received plenty of calls about players, according to the report. One of those teams is GC Busan, which recently won OGN APEX Season 4. When asked about a report Tuesday of Cloud9 acquiring the GC Busan roster, a representative of GC told Daily eSports that “nothing has yet been confirmed.”
